28 years later

28 years ago this month…
…President Jimmy Carter was fighting a stiff challenge for reelection from California Gov. Ronald Reagan.
Three’s Company entered its fifth season.
…”Another One Bites the Dust” by Queen was #1 on the Billboard charts.
…Movies out in theaters included The Elephant Man, Private Benjamin, Ordinary People, Smokey & the Bandit II, and Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
…And the Philadelphia Phillies won its first ever World Series championship.

It would be another 28 years before they won again. Tonight, the losingest franchise in major North American sports history, a team with over 10,000 losses since its founding in 1883, a team whose fans had grown accustomed to watching others celebrate before them, finally gets to pop the champagne corks and hoist the trophy.

Champions of 2008. Champions forever. LET’S GO PHILLIES!!!

And please don’t tear the city apart.
